🏴☠️ My most popular LinkedIn post this quarter and why it worked
Hey — it’s Danny.
You ever wonder why a post seems to take off on social? This issue I’m going to unpack the best performing post from the quarter.
In today’s email:
My top performing post from the quarter: And why it worked.
How to write compelling ad copy: Even if you aren’t running ads, copywriting is copywriting and you’d be wise to study it.
Better questions to ask on a sales call: Specific > general.

OFF CAMPUS
OpenAI launched it’s ChatGPT search a few weeks ago. There’s even a plugin for chrome so you can replace Google as the default search engine. I still prefer Perplexity.ai.
Are you on Threads? Zuck says they have 1M+ people signing up each day and ~275M monthly users. X is at ~318M users per month.
🎃 Pumpkin pie anyone? A pumpkin weighing 2,471 pounds won a California contest last month. Maybe everything isn’t bigger in TX.
How to write ads fast. Kolby wrote 1007 ads for The Hustle. Here is what he learned.
Don’t ask what are your priorities on sales calls. Ask this instead.

THIS WEEK’S LESSON
My most popular post this quarter (and why it worked).
I wrote the post below on October 30th and I’m sharing it so you can write something similar.

According to Shield it has been my most engaging post this quarter with 1.1K impressions, 29 likes, and 24 comments after 3-days.
I only compare my posts to myself because that’s the kind of game I’m playing. I’m sure there are readers of this newsletter who have had better “performance,” but that doesn’t matter.
The game I’m playing is against myself and I hope to show you why it worked so you can apply it to your content if you choose.
So why did it work?
Compelling Hook. “I matched last year’s revenue and exceeded profits in Q3 this year.”
This is a topic that Former Educator Founders would want to read because we all are interested in growing our businesses.
Unexpected turn. “But that wasn’t my greatest success.”
The story then turns to a description of a Bill’s Monday Night Football game with my family.
Real vulnerability. “But if I'm honest, I'm way better at setting and achieving business goals than I am achieving relational goals. So I’d love your advice.”
This newsletter is about growing a legendary business (which I excel at) but this post is asking for help … How do I invest in a legendary family? People love to help so they were super helpful in the comments.
A clear CTA.

📸 A beautiful picture of my family. Who wouldn’t want to help me out after seeing my lovely family 😍
The Lesson for you …
Yes, continue to market and write about your problem and category. This should be the majority of your posts.
And from time to time throw in something real and vulnerable. This is different than what my mentor’s call the “Me Disease” — posts about how awesome you are, pictures of you doing deadlifts, selfies in first class (before you go to your seat in coach). I guess the difference of what I’m talking about is real vs fake.

This week’s challenge …
What would an authentic post engaging your network look like this week?
The post I wrote was inspired by a post my friend Pablo shared 4 months ago.
Use his post or the one featured in today’s newsletter to craft your post.
When you take action, tag me on LinkedIn or send it to me via email. I’d love to see what you ship 🚢
